Jimmy Tarlau is a resident of Mount Rainier.  He was elected as a state delegate in 2014 and served until 2018.  Before that he served on the Mount Rainier City Council for seven years.

He is a graduate of Princeton University and holds a Masters of Arts degree from Villanova University in Computer Science and from Rutgers University in Labor Relations.  He is married to the musician, Jodi Beder, and has two grown children Ananta and Becky.  He is the Assistant to the Vice President of the Communications Workers of America. His responsibilities include negotiating collective bargaining contracts, lobbying, political activity and organizing.

He was a member of the Ways and Means Committee of the House Delegates and serves on the Education and the Finance Resources Subcommittee. He was a also a member of the Black, Women’s and Latino Caucuses.

He was formerly a member of the Prince George’s Telecommunications Commission and also served as a member of the  Maryland State Telecommunications Tax Commission.

Jimmy has spent his whole life as a community organizer, union organizer, labor negotiator and political activist.  He has devoted his life fighting for working families and to make real change in this country.
